School got out two weeks ago, today. If I thought I was busy while the kids were in school, it's nothing compared to having everybody home. It takes a couple of weeks to adjust to being around each other all the time, and it's an adjustment for me to rarely have a moment's peace. I am trying to enjoy our time together and appreciate the warm weather and carefree days.
The end of the school year is a beast in itself. There are so many end of the year presentations that it seems like the last two weeks of school, Sean doesn't get a decent nap because I have to wake him up and take him to one event or another.
Nevertheless, we go and I try to enjoy the kids' accomplishments while I wrestle Sean to keep him from pulling down the classroom book displays or running like an adorable little tyrant through the halls.
The first school thing we went to was Ricky's "Spring Showcase."
Ricky has really made a lot of progress this school year. In the following picture, he is holding some of his early writing. He began the year writing everything in the mirror image. We have spent a lot of time working on him with reading, writing, and math and he has shown a lot of improvement. I am proud of him.
Emily did a wonderful presentation on Anne Sullivan (Helen Keller's teacher/tutor). The event was called a wax museum because the 5th and 6th graders dressed up like famous Americans and posed as wax statues. When somebody pushed the button on their hand, they came to life and recited a six paragraph memorized biography which they had written themselves about their famous American. I was so impressed with some of the kids and Emily did an excellent job. I may post the videos of her presentation. I had to split it into 3 different sections because her memorized presentation was so long.
Andrew's little preschool group had a graduation party at our house. I have another cute video of them singing a song, but for now just pictures will have to do. The was the best co-op preschool group I have participated in. The kids were so good, and the moms were all people that I like (not that I don't like very many people).
One of the moms made this amazing book cake . . .
On the last day of school, Emily had her 6th Grade Celebration (like a mini-graduation). Next year, Emily will be in Junior High!
Emily's teacher for the past 2 years has been wonderful!!! She may be my favorite teacher at the school. She is a lovely person and an excellent educator.
Below is Emily with a couple of her friends in front of the Wickham Wizard (the school's mascot).
Besides these events during the last few weeks of school, a few other things went on including a mother-daughter trip to Omaha for a Taylor swift concert. Maybe I'll find a few minutes to put some pictures up of that . . .
