Rick and I had a fun mini-trip to Leavenworth while we were visiting Rick's parents in Washington. It had been a very long time since we had spent more than a few hours alone together (unless you count having Sean and the hospital which isn't relaxing at all!!)
Can you believe we lived in Washington for six years and never went to Leavenworth? Probably we were too busy living life to do any real site-seeing. It is a fun place for people who like to be out in nature enjoying lovely weather and beautiful scenery.
Downtown Leavenworth isn't really my cup of tea because on I'm not really a big time small-shop-shopper, but I love the flowers in hanging baskets and along the avenue. They are so pretty! I'm a big fan of colorful flowers and lots of them.
While we were there, we ate as some really good restaurants. If you go to Leavenworth, don't miss South. We travelled to Cashmere one day (about 15 minutes away) and found another cute town with a magnificent BBQ restaurant. One funny thing about Country Boy's BBQ--every other person that walked in had a mohawk or a mullet.
We stayed at a bed and breakfast with a really nice view of the Icicle River.
One thing I liked about the place we stayed was that they were really good about helping you get around to the abundant outdoor activities. They had nice mountain bikes for every tenant to borrow along with cross-country skis and snowshoes for their winter visitors. They also provided passes to the parks so that you could take advantage of the many nice hikes available nearby. They provided maps and information for just about anything you could think about doing in Leavenworth.
Icicle Gorge was a lovely place to hike. Do you think Rick might have unintentionally exceeded the speed limit?
Bears were an issue, but I didn't see any. Our innkeeper told us a bear was rummaging around the place on our last night there, but maybe that was a rumor to make us feel like we were really experiencing nature.
We saw some beautiful rapids and waterfalls.
The wildflowers were lovely. Birdwatching was fun. If you go hiking, though, be careful of steep drop-offs!
We spent part of one day tubing down the river. The water was high and fast and COLD. We had a good time, though, and felt fortunate that we went on the day we did because tubing was cancelled for the remainder of our stay because of dangerous conditions.
Don't worry, we didn't float down that part of the river. I just thought it was pretty.
We had a lot of fun together. I am so lucky to be married to just a great man who not only treats me and our children well, but makes me laugh too.
