Andrew had a fall last Thursday, which changed how his teeth look. He was climbing in the snack cabinet to get Lemon Heads (no surprise to those who know him). He fell and bumped his teeth on the bar stool. There was hardly any blood, but it hurt. The impact of the fall pushed two of his teeth up into his gums and one out toward his lip.

I took him to the dentist the next day just to be safe, and regretted my visit. I spent two hours at the dentist office (and I don't know how much $ yet) just for them to tell me what I had already guessed--no major damage. His permanent teeth forming above seem to have avoided injury. The roots of his baby teeth are fine. Over the next few months, the teeth that were pushed up into his gums will re-erupt.
He had lined up all of his "packed bags." Each bag has certain things in it . . . books, mittens, toys. He knows which bag has which things and how many things are in each one. This morning I found one of his little board books. He said, "Oh, good, Mom. Now I can pack that book. He carried it over to "the Ricky Bag" (which is the pink and purple backpack--I don't know why it is called "The Ricky Bag") and put it in there. I peeked inside the bag, and sure enough, it was full of other little board books. I think he is a little crazy in this way but it is good for his math skills.

I do have a question for my dental friends . . . Andrew saw a dentist that he has not seen before. This guy is new, and I'm not a big fan. Andrew already has a check-up appointment set up this summer with his usual dentist, but the new guy wants me to bring him into the office in May just to check for possible infection from the injury. Do you think this guy is just trying to squeeze a little more money out of me? I don't think the extra visit is necessary because I feel like I can keep an eye on Andrew and I would know if something looked weird. Let me know what you think.
Here's another interesting thing about Andrew. Since he could walk, he has been into gathering and organizing things. He is constantly grouping items into categories and he knows when something is missing. It drives him crazy if he can't find "the yellow bouncy ball" or "the heart book" or "the little bear." Over the last few months, he has been packing bags.
When I got out of the shower this morning, I came downstairs to this:
He had lined up all of his "packed bags." Each bag has certain things in it . . . books, mittens, toys. He knows which bag has which things and how many things are in each one. From a little boy who will not turn 3 until May, I expected, "One, two, three, three, eight, nine, ten." But, this is what he did:
I quickly got out the camera to film him. I didn't coach him on this, and to be honest, I don't even think I have taught him how to count. He must have picked it up from the older kids. Maybe I should start teaching him multiplication. Forget multiplication, I'll move straight to quantum physics.

We had a tooth trauma a few years ago. I think they said the big sign of something wrong would be a bubble of some sort on the gums. I think if you just keep an eye on it, you should be ok until summer. Although, Robert got an infection in his tooth as a teenager and had to have teeth pulled and a bridge put in his mouth. Much more expensive than a follow-up visit.
I spoke with another dentist in the area and he said that if they have been operating in the area for awhile (which they had) then they know pretty well what is and what isn't covered and they can be pretty darn accurate and them saying it is just an estimate is kind of a crock.
I hope his teeth are okay! kids can sure be expensive!
